Seiryoku is the first full size demo Izard and I made. We normally focus on creating 64k intros, and even our whole toolset is specifically created for that purpose. But there was a good reason for changing our focus to full size demos: we were invited to compete in the Intel Demo Competition 2008, which is a yearly occuring online competition where 5 demo groups create a full size demo in a single month to compete against each other. These 5 demo groups are chosen by a jury, and in the years before various well-known and skilled groups competed.

We didn’t expect to be chosen to compete in the competition, so it kind of came as a shock that we were. It meant we had to build a complete demo in a single month. It also meant we got a free PC, sponsored by Intel.

A large portion of my time was spent on building a special version of our Nerve demo system called NerveHD with support for various things that normally aren’t needed in 64k’s, such as: lightmaps, file textures, shader files, ogg audio, configuration dialog, data packaging, etc…

Anyway, the demo we finally delivered to the competition was not something we where proud of, and totally not what we had in mind when we started working on it. But we’re still happy to have competed in such a strong competition, and that we actually released something.
